The management team of Ghanaian artist DJ Azonto has raised concerns over the unauthorized use of his popular song title “Fa No Fom” by fellow musician Guru, who was running for SRC president.
According to DJ Azonto’s team, Guru had adopted the song title as his campaign slogan without seeking permission, sparking a potential legal battle over intellectual property rights.
“Fa No Fom,” a hit song that has become a cultural phenomenon, is the intellectual property of DJ Azonto, and its use in any form without permission constitutes an infringement on the rights of the artist and his team.
Guru’s campaign, however, has allegedly been using the slogan freely in promotional materials and public appearances, prompting DJ Azonto’s management to seek damages.
The management of DJ Azonto is demanding $1 billion in compensation should Guru win the SRC election with the unauthorized use of the slogan.
According to them, the use of the song title in a political campaign, especially without prior authorization, is a violation of intellectual property rights that could damage the brand and public perception of DJ Azonto’s creative work.
