Ghanaian singer Essilfie emerged as the winner of the 2023 AfroFuture Rising Star Challenge, surpassing fellow finalists such as Sage the Rager, Romeo Swag, 99 Phaces, and BigMoon. This victory marks Essilfie’s ascension to the forefront of the competition, succeeding Afro-soul singer Bleau, the winner of the previous year’s challenge.
As part of her prize package, Essilfie secured a studio session with an acclaimed producer and a coveted performance slot on the TuneCore stage at the festival, among other rewards. AfroFuture lauded Essilfie’s exceptional performance, stating, “Big shoutout to Essilfie, the unstoppable force who conquered the Rising Star Challenge 2023. She didn’t just participate; she owned the stage, making it clear why she’s the undisputed winner.”
In response, Essilfie expressed her gratitude for the accolade, acknowledging the significance of the achievement.
Notably, Essilfie’s musical journey has been marked by notable milestones, including her selection for the maiden OneBeat Ghana residency for socially engaged artist-entrepreneurs from Ghana, Nigeria, and the US. Additionally, she was awarded a grant by the British Council in Accra as part of the maiden Creative Enterprise Support Programme.
With a repertoire that includes tracks like ‘Aben Wo Ha’, ‘Prayed Up’, ‘Fake Love’, and ‘Let Me In’, Essilfie has also made a mark with the collaborative EP ‘Luv Lyf’ alongside local DJ-producer Dredw.
In a parallel event, UK-based DJ Tiannah clinched the title of the winner of the 2023 edition of the AfroFuture Rising DJ and Producer Challenge in Ghana. Her prize package included airfare to Accra, Ghana, for a performance opportunity at TuneCore’s AfroFuture Mixer and a slot on the TuneCore Stage at the AfroFuture festival at El Wak stadium on 28 and 29 December. Additionally, she received a special prize package furnished by Native Instruments and Splice.
