Ghanaian singer-songwriter Gyakie has joined the Golden Club of Boomplay, an Africa-facing music streaming and download platform, after surpassing 100 million streams. This achievement makes her the first Ghanaian female artist to cross that milestone. The announcement comes shortly after Gyakie was awarded the Female Artist of the Year at the 2024 YEN Entertainment Awards.
Gyakie now joins the ranks of other popular Ghanaian artists such as Black Sherif, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and Camidoh, who have also achieved significant streaming success on the platform. Across the continent, Nigerian superstars like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Fireboy DML, Joeboy, and Omah Lay, as well as Tanzanian artists Diamond Platinumz and Rayvanny, have also achieved similar streaming milestones on Boomplay.
Expressing her gratitude, Gyakie, whose music spans various genres including Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, R&B, and Dancehall, thanked Boomplay and her fans for their support. She mentioned that this milestone was achieved without the release of an album and teased the upcoming release of her debut album while encouraging her fans to continue streaming her music.
Gyakie, signed to Flip The Music and Sony Music, made her debut in 2019 with the single “Love is Pretty” followed by “Never Like This.” However, it was the release of “Forever” in 2020 that propelled her to continental acclaim and set her on a remarkable trajectory. She has since released two EPs, “Seed” and “My Diary,” and has delivered numerous hit songs including “Something,” “Need Me,” “Scar,” and most recently, “Rent Free.”
As a member of the British copyright collective PRS for Music, Gyakie is set to release her highly anticipated debut album later this year.
