Kendrick Lamar Sweeps 4 Wins at 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, Setting New Records

Hip Hop Icon Makes History with Four Impressive Award Wins, Including Best Hip Hop Artist and Video Director of the Year.

Kendrick Lamar dominated the stage and created history at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards as he took home an astounding four awards. The acclaimed artist clinched the prestigious titles of Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, and Video Director of the Year, alongside his creative partner Dave Free.

In a remarkable feat, Kendrick Lamar has become the first artist to achieve the title of Hip Hop Artist of the Year three times, solidifying his position as a hip hop legend. The artist’s prowess as a live performer was also celebrated as he secured the Best Live Performer award for the fourth time, matching the record set by Kanye West and Jay-Z.

Additionally, Kendrick Lamar earned the title of Lyricist of the Year for the ninth time, extending his lead for the most wins in this coveted category. His collaboration with Dave Free in the Video Director of the Year category earned them back-to-back victories, a feat not seen in the category since the illustrious Hype Williams’ four-year reign from 2009-2012.

The 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, recorded at the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta, showcased the talent and contributions of numerous artists in the hip-hop industry. The award show aired on BET on October 10, with an encore presentation at midnight ET on BET.

While Kendrick Lamar’s historic wins were undoubtedly a highlight of the evening, other artists also took home well-deserved awards. Drake & 21 Savage and Lil Durk featuring J. Cole each secured two awards. Hip Hop Album of the Year was awarded to Drake & 21 Savage’s “Her Loss,” marking the third collaboration to win in this category. The artists also celebrated their victory in the Best Duo or Group category.

Lil Uzi Vert’s chart-topping hit “Just Wanna Rock” was named Song of the Year, and it also clinched the award for Best Hip Hop Video. On the other hand, “All My Life” by Lil Durk featuring J. Cole, not only secured the Best Collaboration award but also claimed the Impact Track award, underlining its significant role in moving hip hop culture forward.

Notably, Metro Boomin made history by becoming the first producer to win Producer of the Year three times, previously winning the award in 2015 and 2017. Kendrick Lamar and the other winners from the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards showcased the incredible talent and innovation that continue to drive the hip hop industry forward.
