Gertrude Adotey Naa Akushika, professionally known as Naa Shika, has built a remarkable career as a gospel singer, songwriter, composer, performer, and worship leader whose music continues to inspire audiences across Ghana and beyond.

Born in Adabraka, Accra, in the 1970s and raised in Osu, Naa Shika grew up in a household where faith and music blended seamlessly, igniting a lifelong passion for gospel music. The second of six siblings, she began singing at church and school from an early age. By the time she attended the Opportunity Industrialisation Centre (OIC), she had already risen to the position of choir leader.

Her musical journey took a professional turn in 1995 when she joined the Ghana Armed Forces Band, specifically the Air Force Band in Takoradi, where she became fondly known as “Mama Gee.” Over three decades of service, she established herself as both a respected performer and a beacon of gospel ministry.

In 2004, Naa Shika released her debut album, Yesu Asor, inspired during an intense prayer session where she felt called to share the magnificence of God through song. Since then, she has continued to refine her sound, weaving contemporary gospel with traditional worship to create a unique style that resonates across generations.

“At the core of my music is faith,” she told Hashim News. “Each lyric reflects my relationship with God and is meant to inspire listeners to encounter Him more deeply.”

Her career has been marked by resilience and purpose, with a clear mission: to serve as a vessel for God. “I aim for my music to provide solace and remind listeners of God’s dominion,” she explained. Looking ahead, she hopes to record more music, collaborate with fellow gospel artists, and explore new expressions of worship.

Beyond music, Naa Shika is also active in humanitarian and philanthropic work, balancing her career with service to her community and mentoring young gospel artists. “I take great pleasure in sharing my experiences and helping others find their voices,” she said.

For Naa Shika, gospel music is more than art—it is a calling. “I seek to lead others to Christ, encourage believers, and build a career that makes a meaningful impact on the world,” she affirmed.

As she continues to evolve both spiritually and artistically, Naa Shika’s unwavering devotion ensures her place as a lasting voice in Ghana’s gospel landscape.
