1. What inspired you to pursue a career in music/entertainment?
The cliche answer would be that I was born for this; I’ve always been surrounded by music from when I was a kid to joining the choir and then being surrounded by creatives who allowed me to nurture that part of me. However, I see music as a means of expression and I needed to find a way to express myself and also connect with other people
2. Can you share a bit about your musical background and journey so far?
I started music by drumming on tables and rapping in class back in secondary school, but it was just for fun. I would hear some songs and start to write verses to them as if I was also on the song. Professionally, I was lucky to have a studio I could record for free, so I just got beats from YouTube and recorded a song. I later shared this with a couple of people and they seemed to like the storytelling angle, so I continued. This birthed my first project “Dejavu”, after that I’ve put out a couple singles and I recently just dropped my second EP “Love In The Trenches”
3. Who are your biggest musical influences?
This is a tough one, because I pick from a wide range of people I listen to. Some of my influences are ShowDemCamp, Falz, Ladipoe, MI, J Cole, to mention but a few.
4. How would you describe your unique style or sound?
Rapfrobeats; a unique blend of Rap and Afro Fusion
5. What message or emotions do you aim to convey through your music?
I love to tell stories around stuff that people can relate to. From conscious music to stuff about love and just living life
5. Can you talk about your latest project/release and the inspiration behind it?
Love In The Trenches is a story about the typical broke guy’s approach to love, from making promises, serenading his lady with sweet words and acknowledging his inadequacies while going through the highs and lows of a typical relationship.
6. What challenges have you faced in your career, and how did you overcome them?
I think my major challenges would be trying to find the best approach to marketing my music and securing collaborations. To be fair, a bigger financial backing would solve a huge chunk of my problems. I try to solve these by leveraging relationships and I consciously try to network and learn new stuff everyday
7. Are there any collaborations or dream collaborations you hope to Pursue?
Hmm, the list is a lot! BOJ, Ayra Starr, Chike, Teni, Falz and other artistes outside of Nigeria. Basically, I’m open to work with everyone
8. How do you approach the songwriting process? Do you have any rituals or techniques?
When I hear a beat, I try to come up with a story based on the emotions I get from the beat. From the story, I try to write out the first set of words that come to my head and from there I fine tune. Sometimes, the first thing I write can end up being the last line of the verse
9. What are your future goals and aspirations as an artist?
My goal for this year was to hit 200k combined streams on Spotify and Apple music, but I think I need to dream bigger because I’ve almost hit that milestone. Generally, the goal is to keep getting bigger and inspire people
I want couples to think of each other when they hear my songs or for people to feel the intended emotions when they plug in
