Nigeria’s most loved musical exports Ruger returns with the new hotly anticipated double A-side single ‘Luv Again / Make Way’, out 5th June on Promised Land.
Ruger exhibits his unique blend of Afrobeats, Dancehall and hook-ladened vocal melodies on the hugely catchy ‘Luv Again’, while ‘Make Way’ is a mellower groove, floating along on delicate guitar shapes as Ruger’s flow dominates.
‘Luv Again / Make Way’ follows in the success of Ruger’s recent joint EP RnB with BNXN, released in April. The focus track for the EP ‘Poe’ peaked at #1 on Spotify and Apple Music in Nigeria. Meanwhile, the 2022 Promised Land Records-owned track ‘WeWe’ from the Second Wave (Deluxe) EP is having another viral moment currently on TikTok, where it is pulling in over 140K global DSP streams daily.
Ruger has also announced the next phase of 2024 tour dates this summer, spanning all across Europe and including festival dates such as DLT Malta Festival and Wireless Festival in London.
Since dropping his first single in 2021, Michael Adebayo Olayinka, the artist known as Ruger, has made a habit of standing out amongst worldwide audiences, not least thanks to bright pink hair, an eyepatch, and an unequivocally true-to-himself attitude. Spending the bulk of 2023 on a sold-out international tour, Ruger has steadily granted fans a stream of top-tier projects in two short years, from the debut EP Pandemic to follow-ups The Second Wave and The Second Wave Deluxe. Breakout single ‘Asiwaju’, which featured on Ruger’s debut album RU The World, would catapult him to wider fame, the track going #1 in Nigeria, #3 on the OCC Afrobeats Chart in the UK and gaining over 100 million streams, whilst ‘Girlfriend’ and ‘Bounce’ would catch further attention from fans worldwide.
The artist has also received support from Vogue, Wonderland, Fader and The Face amongst others, as well as airplay and support from BBC 1Xtra, Kiss FM, Capital Xtra, NTS and Rinse, as well as releasing collaborations with Rema, D’Prince, and Projexxx, and garnering shout-outs from the likes of Popcaan, Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy.
