ABOUT TOURE:
Fusing lithe vocals and percussive flows with the relentlessness of his native West Philadelphia, TOURE serves up engrossing trench tales of strife and aspiration. Dating back to the release of “Out West” in 2018, he’s oscillated between melodic bops and hammering street raps for songs that can evoke icy cool, naked vulnerability or exhilarating menace. He continues that tradition of Life of the Party, an engrossing LP that evokes reflection and hard-earned celebration. A mosaic of sounds and emotions, Life of the Party is an exhibition for agile rhymes, searing belief and songwriting versatility — a soundtrack for a come up years in the making. Growing up the son of rabid rap fans, Toure remembers being exposed to hip-hop early on. Coming of age as Philly was undergoing its own rap renaissance, TOURE found inspiration and support from artists like Meek Mill as they became soundtracks for the City of Brotherly Love. By 2016, he’d started his own rap journey with “Bubble Up,” an energetic anthem that crystallized his status as an area artist to watch. TOURE consummated his initial buzz with the release of World Toure, a 2018 mixtape that reaffirmed his knack for melodic ditties. His ascent was further aided by 2022’s Only 4 the Trenches Deluxe, Hood Poetry and All I Wanted Was Everything. It continues with Life of the Party, songs from which he’ll bring to his first-ever performance at this year’s Philadelphia Powerhouse concert. “I’m done competing with the artists from my city,” TOURE says. “I’m trying to compete with the world.”
