Rising Nigerian Afrobeats and dancehall singer Uptown Bwoy has released his latest single, “Shayo Go Dey,” a vibrant track that blends infectious rhythms with a deeper message of resilience and joy. At first listen, the song feels like a typical Afrobeats dance anthem, but beneath its energetic surface lies a powerful reminder that even in the toughest times, there’s always room for celebration.
“Shayo Go Dey,” which translates to “there will be drinks” from Pidgin to English, captures the essence of finding joy amidst life’s challenges. The song’s lyrics and upbeat production reflect Uptown Bwoy’s belief that no matter how dark the moment, there’s always something to lift the spirit and keep the party alive.
“This song is about resilience and finding joy even in the hardest times,” says Uptown Bwoy. “Life can be tough, but there’s always a reason to celebrate. ‘Shayo Go Dey’ is my way of reminding people to keep their spirits high, no matter what.”
Born Casmir Emodi on January 14, Uptown Bwoy is a Nigerian Afrobeats and dancehall singer and songwriter from Abia State, with roots in Ihiala L.G.A, Anambra State. Growing up in the ghetto, Uptown Bwoy always dreamed of a better life for himself and his family. His peers gave him the name “Uptown Bwoy” as a reflection of his aspirations and mindset, even when his circumstances suggested otherwise.
Balancing his family’s deep ties in business and education with his passion for music, Uptown Bwoy grew up navigating two worlds. Inspired by Nigerian stars like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Patoranking, as well as Jamaican icons like Popcaan and Sean Paul, he has developed a unique sound that blends Afrobeats and dancehall influences.
