Togolese singer-songwriter and arranger Yao Olagbedji introduces his latest reggae track, “Sunday Morning,” the second song from his album “AfroCosmos.” Infused with influences from legends like Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, and Miles Davis, Yao’s music not only pays homage to these greats but also conveys messages of independence and originality.
With a background rooted in music, Yao Olagbedji’s journey as an artist is inspired by these legendary figures, and his music carries their spirit and influence. His desire for independence and his mission to create an original sound align with his messages that resonate with the dynamic and ever-evolving Africa.
“Sunday Morning” is part of Yao’s “AfroCosmos” album, offering a revolutionary reggae experience deeply connected to its African roots. This captivating track seamlessly flirts with Afrobeat and traditional Voodoo rhythms, showcasing Yao’s eclectic musical influences, including jazz, Afro-Cuban, rock, and blues. The resulting sound has been described as “Blue Reggae,” a unique fusion of styles.
Recorded as a concept album, “AfroCosmos” was brought to life in a live studio session in Lomé, Togo, in October 2021 and April 2022. Yao collaborated with a talented ensemble of musicians from Lomé, Accra, and Cotonou, further enriching the album’s unique sonic palette.
