At just 17 years old, this Nigerian-born, Perth-raised prodigy is already carving a niche for himself with a sound that’s drawn comparisons to fellow rappers J. Cole and Redveil.

With “John Doe”, his first single for 2024, Zafty parades his natural ability to find the perfect cadence for any instrumental; flawlessly navigating his way across the 1970’s soul sampled beat – declaring his commitment to chasing his dreams, exploring themes of self-discovery, resilience and empowerment.

“I tried to explore the whole idea of identity and the nuance that comes with it. I’ve been trying to find a balance between holding strong convictions while staying open-minded to new perspectives – I’m beginning to understand how that shapes who I am. I hope that shines through in the lyrics and can positively influence whoever listens.” – Zafty

The two-minute track took shape in December of 2023, with Zafty receiving the beat from Perth producer, GLEE DEPOT; and within the hour he had written, recorded (on an old Playstation headset), and sent back a demo. One week and an hour-long studio session later, “John Doe” was brought to life.

The single is taken to the next level with a music video that showcases not only Zafty’s natural authenticity and charm, but also his conviction behind each and every lyric.

Zafty Bio:

Zafty is a 17-year-old rapper from Perth, Australia. The Nigerian-born prodigy has drawn comparisons to the likes of J. Cole and Redveil. With demos spanning drill, house, trap, boom-bap, and even pop, Zafty is the full package.
Inspired by fellow rappers Joey Bada$$, Smino, and Isaiah Rashad, his journey started on his phone, recording ideas on voice memos. Now he records demos using a laptop and a Playstation headset – and he’s always writing. With hundreds of tracks in the vault, he released 11 singles in 2023; his talent being recognised by Australia’s Triple J team; who described his entry into the scene as spreading “like wildfire,” earning him a spot on their 2023 Unearthed High Yearbook.

As he continues to evolve and refine his sound, one thing is clear: Zafty is not just another rapper from Perth; he’s a force to be reckoned with – an artist whose vision far exceeds the limitations of age or location.
