Ghanaian singer-songwriter Gyakie has released her highly anticipated debut album, After Midnight—a 17-track odyssey that explores vulnerability, healing, identity, and self-love while cementing her as one of Africa’s most compelling female voices.
Known for her soulful fusion of Afro-R&B, highlife, and alternative influences, Gyakie steps into a defining new era with After Midnight, offering listeners her most honest and immersive body of work yet. The album captures her evolution from a young girl born into music to a fully-realized artist embracing her truth and artistry.
Born to Ghanaian highlife legend Nana Acheampong, Gyakie carries a rich musical legacy, one she honors with a deeply personal statement. “Almost all the songs on the album were recorded after midnight,” she shares. “It is within those hours that I find my best inspiration—the peace, the quiet, the sounds, the serenity—it all fuels my creativity.”
Accompanied by a cinematic narrative trailer directed by Alex Piper (Rema, Travis Scott, Wizkid, Skepta), the project features fan favorites like “Sankofa” and “Unconditional,” alongside a rich mix of collaborations with global talents including 6LACK, Kojey Radical, Omar Sterling, Headie One, Shatta Wale, and Young Jonn. Each partnership expands the sonic palette of the album, reflecting the universality of music and its ability to bridge cultures.
In a standout full-circle moment, Gyakie samples her father on Y2K Luv featuring Omar Sterling—an homage to her roots and a powerful symbol of legacy in Ghanaian music. Across the album, she balances late-night reflections with vibrant anthems, effortlessly moving between slow-burning ballads, amapiano grooves, and soulful highlife.
“This album is about becoming,” Gyakie says. “It’s about embracing all the versions of myself—the soft parts, the strong parts, the past, the present, and the dreams I’m chasing. I hope people find pieces of themselves in these songs.”
