History was made yesterday as Sarkodie hosted his annual flagship concert, Rapperholic, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi for the very first time. Branded as “Rapperholic: The Homecoming”, the 2025 edition carried a deeper significance: it marked Sarkodie’s symbolic return to his roots in Kumasi, the city where he grew up.
The Ashanti capital lived up to its reputation as Ghana’s cultural heartbeat, with fans flooding into the stadium and the streets buzzing with energy. The concert was more than a music spectacle—it was an artistic and economic moment for Kumasi. From packed hotels and surging transportation demand to street vendors and local pop-up businesses, the city’s economy thrived in the lead-up to the event.
The night was charged with unforgettable performances. Sarkodie shared the stage with a powerhouse lineup including Kweku Flick, Medikal, Obrafuor, Kofi Kinaata, Donzy, and the Asakaa Boys, offering a rich mix of sounds that showcased Ghana’s evolving music scene. DJ Ashmen’s “Bless The Mic” segment gave unknown fans the chance to freestyle on stage, reinforcing Rapperholic’s role as a platform for both established and emerging talent.
But perhaps the most talked-about moment of the night came when Shatta Wale, Sarkodie’s long-time rival, appeared on stage as a surprise guest. The collaboration shocked the audience and quickly became the evening’s defining highlight. Beyond the performance, it symbolized an unexpected act of unity—an example of how reconciliation and collaboration can fuel new energy in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
With Rapperholic: The Homecoming, Sarkodie didn’t just put on a concert; he brought Kumasi into the center of Ghana’s music spotlight, blending nostalgia, cultural pride, and economic impact into one unforgettable night.
