Leading African animation studio, Animax FYB Studios has won the award for the “Best Short Animation” for an excellent work done on “Room 5”, at CANEX WKND 2024, the biggest gathering of creative entrepreneurs and content creators held in Algeria, North Africa. The short film, “Room 5”, was originally inspired by COVID-19 pandemic and the collective anxiety and fear around hospitals and injections.
AnimaxFYB Studios, was also honored with the prestigious MANSA “Rising Star Award” by Afreximbank at the CANEX WKND 2024 in Algeria. This award recognizes emerging creative industry leaders who are making a significant impact in Africa’s cultural and creative sectors and are champions of the MANSA due diligence data platform.
With their fecund productions through a decade, AnimaxFYB continues to showcase stories from Africa to the screens of the local and global markets of the world as their mission has always been. Speaking to the Founder/Creative Director of Animax FYB Studios, Francis Brown, he said “This award is dedicated, first and foremost, to all the hardworking animators and practitioners in Africa and the diaspora. Animation is booming globally, with a market projected to reach over $450 billion, yet Africa’s contribution is estimated at only $13 billion.”
Touching on some of the challenges in the animation industry, Francis said “Unfortunately, much of this revenue doesn’t stay in Africa, as we largely consume animation content rather than produce it. African animation creators face significant challenges in accessing funding and support needed to scale production and compete internationally, leaving our markets and stories vulnerable to industry giants.”
He lauded institutions that have been supportive of the animation industry, “I call on Afreximbank and other financial and investment institutions to recognize the potential of Africa’s animation industry and provide the necessary support to help bridge this gap. Together, we can ensure African animation thrives, both at home and on the global stage.”
In addition, Animax FYB Studios became the first animation studio to exhibit at MIPCOM Cannes, the world’s Entertainment Content Market held in France October 2024.
In other exciting news, Animax FYB Studios screened its animation short film, “Jabari” on Wednesday, 30th October at the South London Gallery in London.
