British-Nigerian singer-songwriter Gabzy returns with his much-anticipated new single, ‘So Much Sense,’ featuring Afropop sensation Fireboy DML. Released via EMPIRE, the vibrant collaboration showcases Gabzy’s signature sultry vocals and textured melodies, reaffirming his position as a defining voice within the UK’s R&B, Alté, and Afro-fusion scenes. Recorded in East London, ‘So Much Sense’ marks the first official collaboration between Gabzy and Fireboy DML. The track is a celebratory ode to good times and perfect vibes.
“For me, ‘So Much Sense’ is about being at a party where everything feels just right, the people, the music, the energy,” Gabzy shared. Complementing Gabzy’s smooth delivery is Fireboy DML, known for his distinctive vocals, songwriting, and international hits like ‘Peru’ featuring Ed Sheeran. Together, the two artists deliver a fresh, euphoric groove, grounded in log-drums and sultry synths courtesy of producers AoD and The Elements.
Hailing from Peckham, South East London, Gabzy was raised in a Nigerian household and spent two transformative years in New York City, experiences that richly inform his genre-blending sound. With early roots in choir singing and a deep appreciation for melody, Gabzy’s breakout came via his collaborative EP ‘Summers’ with longtime partner Melvitto, which established a dedicated fanbase and earned him 2.8M+ monthly listeners on Spotify. His debut solo EP ‘Malone’ followed, leading to sold-out shows across London including Islington Assembly Hall, KOKO, and most recently, Somerset House.
Known for his intimate lyricism and genre-fluid style, Gabzy has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Darkoo, Blanco, Abra Cadabra, King Promise, JayO, and Odeal. His 2023 singles ‘Hear Me Out’ and ‘Jambazz’ further cemented his status, with ‘Jambazz’ peaking at #18 on the UK Afrobeats Chart. Building on the success of his ‘At The End of The Night’ EP and recent features like ‘Piano’ with Lekaa Beats and ‘Too Fine’ with JayO and Odeal, Gabzy continues to push sonic boundaries while staying rooted in his Afro-influenced essence. His unique sound pulls inspiration from icons like Usher, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and alté pioneer Boj, with whom he collaborated on ‘Coco.’ Gabzy is performing at Afronation next month. He has also just announced forthcoming headline shows in Uganda, Zambia, Kenya, the UK, Europe, and a North American tour. He sold out x2 London headline shows at iconic venue, The Roundhouse in minutes, and six of the European tour dates are now also sold out, demonstrating the appetite for his legendary live shows.
Hailed as ‘the future of Afrobeats,’ Fireboy DML burst onto the scene in 2019 with his critically acclaimed debut album Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps, producing standout tracks like ‘Jealous,’ ‘Scatter’ and ‘King.’ The album remained at #1 on Nigerian charts for over 12 weeks and amassed over 250M streams globally. His 2020 follow-up, Apollo, achieved international acclaim and chart success, followed by his breakout hit “Peru”, which reached the Billboard Hot 100, earned BRIT Gold certification, and garnered over 500M streams worldwide. With headline shows, including a recent sold-out performance at the Royal Albert Hall, Fireboy DML continues to solidify his status as a global Afropop powerhouse.
‘So Much Sense’ is a celebration of synergy between genres, generations, and cultures. From East London to Lagos, this single unites two of the most compelling voices in Afrofusion today.
